My condolences for your tree! Don't bother getting the stump removed. Plant around it, and let it ast as time-released fertilizer as it rots. As my mom once told a neighbor who was considering a stump removal, "put a flower pot on it." ;)
Aw, sad. I hate losing a tree like that. I guess it's too late to suggest that you save the chips for mulch.
