This may be a red mulberry tree (
Morus rubra) but there are many kinds of mulberry trees and this one just appeared in our yard 15 or more years ago. I usually stand under the tree and pick the berries but too often I eat them before they make it to the dinner table. Collecting them with a blanket works much better.

What in the heck is a mulberry and what does it taste like? It looks like a blackberry. :)
I discovered the hard way that I am allergic to the sap of the mulberry - caused contact dermatitis. I'm afraid to eat them, but the robins *love* them.
Haha. I love this post! I have only heard of mulberries in the children's rhyme. Looks delish.
I LOVE mulberries but I never see them here in Tas. I must see if I can get a tree here. There are so many fruit trees I want and not enough space...I'm considering becoming a guerrilla gardener so I can have fruit trees in waste land.
Not lazy, smart! Is this early for mulberries?
Hi Sarah V! Yep, it's a bit early. Usually they peak in mid to late June.
Someone and I were just talking about these. They eat them in Europe. There are mulberries all around here -- people are picking them. blackberry-like?
